About us
a carton of milk is a place for us to share parenting tips, best early childhood practices, and secrets from the classroom. Most of all, we will share how to make your home your childs first and ever changing classroom.
Who we are:
We are two twenty something teachers living, working, and mommying in NYC. We have similar outlooks on life, education, and friendship and we are two forward thinking young women. We love to eat, chat, share ideas, commiserate, and organize. Best of all we love helping each other solve problems.
We believe that the love for learning that teachers so often inspired has gotten lost in our data driven, technology overloaded world. Our education system must work hand in hand with families, for the true foundation starts at home.
Through our years together teaching Kindergarten and First grade, we have shared our best practices, favorite literature, materials, life lessons, breakfast clubs, book clubs, frustrations, and most of all friendship.
How we met:
We met at an interview…if you can believe it. I guess you could say it was love at first sight. We asked similar questions and took similar looking notes. When the event was over, we politely said goodbye and wished the other good luck, though we were both secretly hoping we would bump into each other again. And sure enough during the second round of the interview process, we found ourselves sitting next to each other at a table of 16 people. By this time we knew it was fate. We exchanged numbers and wished each other good luck.
3 weeks later, in an excited phone call, we realized that we would be working together, as a Kindergarten team at this startup school.
A little bit about Lauren (according to Arielle)
Lauren is the type of friend everyone wants to have. She is thoughtful, smart, organized, and speaks her mind…in a constructive way of course. She always has valuable information to add to a conversation, and pretty much says everything the way I would say it if I were the one speaking. She gets really excited about things she likes taking big projects head on with no hesitation.
She is always happy to lend a helping hand and tries to make things easier for friends and colleagues. Whenever we meet to work, she is happy to come over and play with Sloane, while getting some work done in between diaper changes, feedings and giggles. I knew right when we met that it was love at first sight. Since then, people often have a hard time telling us apart.
A little bit about Arielle (according to Lauren)
I have to agree with Arielle, that it was love at for sight. I always tell her that I usually think I do things the best way, but she does things the same way as me! We are literally two peas from the same pod. Arielle is the kind of person that works hard and plays hard. At work, she is organized, efficient, and works smart. At play, her energy and warmth are contagious. In the few years that we have known each other, she has been by my side for some of the best and worst times. She supported my family when my grandfather passed away, and will be one of my bridesmaids at my wedding!
It has been amazing to watch Arielle to turn into a mommy. I know she will continue to inspire me and teach me about the kind of mommy that I will want to be one day!
