Book of the Week: Clifford takes a trip

For this month, we want to supply you with some great children’s books for car rides. Before children do something (like a road trip), it is very important to get them ready for what is in store. Literature is a great way to do that. Reading a story about a character taking a trip, can give children opportunities to talk about what they are excited about, nervous about, etc. through the lens of a character. In this particular book, children can explore any nervous feelings about being left behind somewhere. At a carton of milk, we always recommend finding a book that matches a new experience that your child is about to encounter.

This book is about Clifford, by Normal Bridwell. Clifford is one of the most well known and most loving children’s book characters. He has transcended generations, as I loved Clifford when I was in school. It is a perfect book to have in your library, and to pull out before a trip somewhere.

If your child loves Clifford, there are loads of books about him. There is also a great section of pbskids online devoted to Clifford.

Let us know if you have any fond memories of Clifford, the big red dog!
