Book of the week: I am going
This week’s book of the week is I am Going by the incredibly hilarious Mo Willems. Now, when I say incredibly hilarious, I mean for kids and grownups. If you are not familiar with the Gerald and Piggy series of Mo Willems, you need to go buy one immediately. I laugh hysterically when I read these books to my students. (I might even laugh more than the kids). In fact, I just bought a book in this series for my friend’s baby. I insisted on reading it out loud to my husband, so that he could experience the wonder of Mo Willems. He was laughing with me (or maybe at me), but I know he enjoyed the book too!
This book is perfect for our month of August. Gerald and Piggy are at it again, talking about whether or not they are going anywhere. It is a great ice breaker to traveling if you are about to go away with your family.

You can do so many wonderful things with this book.
1. You can act out the book with your child or your spouse/partner. One person can be Piggy and one can be Gerald. You can even make an elephant and a pig mask if you really want to act it out.
2. One person can read the book using 2 different voices.
3. You can ‘insert’ words about where you are going. For example, above you can read “You are going away to ___________?”
You will also notice that since there is not a lot of text on each page, your child will start to know all of the words. They will be able to have an experience with ‘reading’.
Let us know if you have any other Mo Willems favorites!
