Book of the Week: The Little Engine that Could

This book is a CLASSIC. Watty Piper did a phenomenal job writing this lovely children’s story. There is something about this book that transcends generations. You could probably read this book every year of your life and get something different out of it. The message is inspirational. It is about a little train that is stuck. When another train comes to help, it becomes the train’s arduous task to drag the little train up a hill. The train’s mantra becomes “I think I can, I think I can”. The train proves that if you believe that  you can do something, that you will succeed in your endeavors.

This is the perfect message to send your little one to encourage them to be independent this month. I use this book in my class all the time to encourage students to try something for the first time.

There are also many different versions of this story written over the years. It could be fun to read them with your child and compare and contrast the stories and the illustrations.

I have many  fond memories of this book. Let us know if you also have any memories or stories of this book!
