November-Our month of giving thanks
November is our month to talk all about giving thanks, manners, sharing, and friendship. Just a few days ago many parts of the Northeast were hit by Tropical Storm Sandy. The winds in some places reached up to 75 MPH. Flooding was everywhere including the New York City Subways leading to a massive shutdown of power in lower Manhattan. Heeding official warnings many people who lived on coastlines or storm line areas evacuated their homes keeping themselves and their children safe. Going on day three, there are still over 400,000 homes without power in New York City and almost 2 million without power in New Jersey. Over the next few weeks everyone in these areas will need to lend an extra hand to help families, friends, and businesses who have experienced damage from this storm. There will be much to give thanks for, for those of us who experienced damage, and those of us who were no where near this storm. Here is an article on the actual storm, and another on the recovery efforts in the aftermath.
This month we will be sharing our thoughts, ideas, experiences, and tips on how to
- Teach our children to be thankful (what does that even mean!)
- Incorporate manners into every day encounters
- What it means to share and ways to “share” this knowledge with your children
- Cultivate and grow friendships
- Use our favorite books on sharing, friendship and community citizenship
The past two months have been hard ones for Lauren and me with so much going on in our personal lives that we have neglected our wonderful readers. We miss being in constant contact with all of you and hope to once again increase our back and forth communication. We look forward to this journey of parenting, teaching…and making mistakes! alongside you.
xoxo
