Sing Along Car Ride
I am infamously known for making up songs in the moment. It is a great skill to have when with young children on a long car ride. Here are some tips for making up your own songs (no musical talent is necessary)
1. The innovation: Take a song you already know. For example, the wheels of the bus. Keep the tune, and most of the words, but swap out a few that pertain to your trip. It might sound like this:
The wheels in the car go round and round, round and round, round and round, the wheels of the car go round and round, all the way to ___________.
2. Re-write: Take a song you already know. For example, twinkle twinkle. Keep the tune, but change most of the words that pertain to your trip or your child.
sliding, sliding, on the ride. We can’t wait for the water slide.
We’ll slide fast and splash around
We’ll cheer and laugh and make lots of sound
sliding, sliding, on the ride. We’ll be brave and filled with pride.
3. Creator: Write your own tune and your own words. My suggestion is that if you do this, write a song with a lot of repetition and maybe some time to clap or snap (this is quality thinking time of your next rhyme).
If you have written any songs with your family, please share them!!!!
